My suggestion would be to get the dog after you have the baby as sometimes dogs can be very territorial when bringing home a new baby. If they abby is already there, then it has an established place in the "pack"

I wouldn't reccomend a dalmation as they have been so overbred they can be rather high strung. A bull dog may be a better family dog

Of those three dogs, a bull dog would probably be the best.

You should probably not get a dalmation or a shepherd because they really require a LOT of training and exercise in order to be good dogs, and once the baby comes I doubt you'll have the time!

Labs and goldens make great family dogs, but they are also very hyper in their younger years and will require lots of training and exercise throughout their lives.

You might want to consider adopting an adult golden or lab. They will of course still need training and exercise, but they tend to calm down a bit once they are beyond the puppy and adolescent stage.

personally, I would definitely get a labrador retriever. They are the best dogs for children!!! You should get one that is about 3 years old so they are a bit more calm though. Labs hav a very good pain tolerance and do not mind if little kids pull their tails or pet them too hard. they are very sweet and they have the best personalities!! But if you are going to get a second dog, (regardless of the breed) with a baby coming, you should not get a puppy. Your best bet is to get a dog that is around 3 years old and knows how to behave.

golden retriever and labs are good dogs. I have a golden and I have a baby, he is very gentle with the baby and takes a lot of hits from the baby as well! German shephards are great when trained but will you have enough time to do that with a baby coming? All dogs need to be trained but I feel like Goldens are just naturally more gentle

I would tell you not to get another dog at this point. When that baby comes it's going to be just another added stress, stick with the dog you have now. It will not be a good idea to get another dog to keep yours 'occupied' while you are planning for your baby.

Your pet should be part of your family. Don't shut the dog out just because you have a baby coming.

Personally I would not choose any of the breeds you mention. Sporting dogs are usually fine tempered, loyal and gentle with children. They are also easy to train. I have trained many breeds and have personal preferences for a variety of reasons but sporting dogs are a good general choice. Another breed that is excellent with children is the border collie. The only problem with them is they require a lot of exercise.

Those really don't sound like dogs with personalities suitable for children. They are either aggressive or hyper, those three breeds. Do you really want the hassel of another dog when you have your baby?? Maybe stick with what you have now and consider waiting to get one later.

We have an Akita who loves babies. When our friends come over with their baby, he is very gentle with her and acts like he is guarding her. I know that dogs differ in personality, but he is a real sweetheart. He's always checking on her.
