Is it just because its something that can be grown at home, and not regulated?

Dont get me wrong, I have never smoked pot in my life. I dont like things that may alter my reality, such as drugs or drinking.

But I know people who DO smoke pot. My friend even asked the doctor if he smoked. The doctor replied "yes". My friend asked the doctor how many people he had seen die from smoking-related causes. The doctor said there were too many to count. My friend also asked him about drinking, and the doctor also replied that there were too many deaths to count. Then my friend asked the doctor how many people had died from smoking pot... and the doctor was stumped. He had NEVER heard of that happening. So my friend asked the doctor why he would smoke cigarettes to "relax", even though it was so bad for him, yet he put down pot-smoking. The doctor was dumbfounded... and promptly gave my friend the prescription for medical marijuana use that he had been needing

because of a severe and painful health condition. The doctor even admitted that he would rather someone drive after smoking pot than after drinking. I dont get it... if smoking cigarettes and drinking are soooo bad for you, and can even hurt other people, why is smoking pot illegal when it doesnt hurt you or anyone else? Is it just the regulation issue?

PS: I am NOT advocating that anyone starts smoking pot. I am just saying that I know some people who do, and they seem fine, while 13 members of my family have died from smoking related causes, and 4 have died from alcohol-related causes.

I personally believe that smoking pot should not be something illegal. I do smoke pot but I have gotten into more problems drinking than ever smoking. By the government saying it is ok to drink, and then not allowing people to smoke pot is almost hypocrytical.

I think if there is any reason for pot being illegal in the U.S. it is because they do not want anything else that can be mind altering, and could possibly get people into trouble. There is also a lot of crime involved around the distribution of it.

I hope this was some help, if not, hope you find the answer you are looking for.

it is illegal because back in the..i believe 1920's and 30's a law was passed by the head of (some gov agency that had to do with law..i forgot the guys name as well) .

but it was a racist reason for being done..and i am being serious. see what was happening was many mexcians were coming into the country and at the time america was beyond racist. so they started to pass all these laws trying to keep people out (one was the chinese man act ..man was this guy how was a racist that didn't like it that people intermarried) anyway..one thing he did was blame mexicans for smoking pot (which was legal at the time and many farmers grew it because hemp is extremely strong more so than cotton).

so to go after the mexicans coming into the country they blamed them for pot use..and made that movie reefer madness that tried to show pot users as evil and killers etc.

there was a documentry of this on history channel and you can find most of this info with a simple search.

i'd give you specifics if i could remember these peoples names..but i smoke to pot

hehehe

Well, let's see. Pot is illegal because it is bad for you. It's bad for you because it's illegal. Get the logic?

Reefer has stayed illegal because of all the money involved. There is just too much money to be made because of the jacked up prices which illegality supports. The smugglers make too much money to want it otherwise. The dealers make too much money to want it otherwise. Law enforcement officials make too much money with their "income suppliments" for looking the other way. They would not want it otherwise. Legislators take too much in contributions from those who have money to make from the drug trade. They would not want it otherwise.

Since it is so simple for anyone to grow their own, the government would find it impossible to control or tax. That makes it bad already. The drug companies couldn't stand the losses of sales of their own patented mood altering drugs. Think about how severely the economies of Columbia and Mexico would be affected if there were no more marijuana exports. Where would we get our Christmas (excuse me "Holiday") trees if the farmers in western North Carolina could grow pot instead?

What would happen to the power boat industry? What would happen to the aircraft industry? What would happen to the economy of south Florida? How many Customs and DEA agents would be laid off?

Even our enemies want marijuanna to stay illegal. While the Coast Guard is out looking for shrimp boats loaded with weed, the terrorists can calmly steer their nuke loaded mini-subs along the Intercoastal Waterway, looking for a place to land and off load.

The income of millions of families depends on this one plant remaining illegal in the United States.

That is why legalization is NOT LIKELY to happen any time soon.

Historically, it was because of racial prejudice. Marijuana became illegal during the Great Depression in the Southwest USA because of prejudice against Mexican-Americans, but it played on its psychological effects to make it sound like a demonic substance. In reality, marijuana can be useful for things besides recreational use.

Politics.... DuPont had just invented nylon and other synthetics... they wanted to get hemp baned because of the competition. Hemp looks like pot (or vice-versa) It was easier to get pot banded because it was a "bad" drug. At the time it was used a lot by black Jazz bands. The campaign against pot included the image of a drudged up black man going on a rampage and raping white women. Sad, truly sad.

Because smoking IS bad for you! It will kill your brain cells and I know some people that are completely retarded because they smoked pot and it destroyed their minds! There is also the fact that it can be dangerous to those around you! My mother once told me of a time when she tried smoking it and she almost had a wreck on her way home! I know people who have had their lives ruined because they got addicted and its not because they got in trouble with the law... If this isnt reason enough for you then I dont know what is...

i dont see any reason for smoking then for people to escape reality. i guess people smoke generally to escape the stresses and all the problems in their life. i myself never smoked and dont plan to but in my opinion, the government is selfish for letting the tobacco industry to pay them billions of dollars in taxes while so many people die every single day because of smoking. i think that is just plain stupid. just so many people abuse drugs, alcohol, and ciggaretts that it just isnt even funny.i know i kind of got off subject a little but pot, cocaine, and cigarretes should be all illegal because they really have no purpose but to alter a person's mind and brain and basically make them live in a life that just leads them to a quicker death. hope my opinion helps. =)

Because the government and politicians like nothing better than screwing with people's rights...
Can't think of any other reason (think prohibition)
