I have a 1980 Corvette. It had blown speakers so I took it to the Mobile Audio in town. The front dash speakers changed out just fine for something comparable. The rear speakers have proven difficult.

Mobile Audio told me that there aren't any companies that make speakers to fit old Corvettes - the magnets are too long. Right now I have the speakers in boxes in the back.

I'm thinking about just taking them out and leaving the rear speakers empty. Someone told me if it is done right, I would really only need the front speakers anyway.

Any thoughts? Where I can get speakers that will fit, or how to run the sound system to utilize just the front two and still get good sound?

I have a Pioneer deck installed, no sub or amp.

Proud-
Apparently you have never dealt with an old car... "AN" auto shop is the most generic answer you could have given. Don't you think that in fixing up my old car that I would have thought of that? The car is 28 years old! They don't just have parts for cars that old sitting on the shelf at the auto shop.

I've checked ebay, but haven't found anything that will fit. The magnets on the old speakers are a good 1 to 2 inches shorter than what is the norm. So when you try to put in the new style speakers they stick out too far and you can't put the speaker covers back on.

Please don't answer unless you actually have something helpful to say.

I'm not a moron. I'm asking for someone to tell me where they got theirs so I can do the same.

While I can't help you find the exact size speaker for the vehicle, you might try going to a different size. The factory speaker size was 6x9". What you can do is build or buy an adapter plate that fits the 6x9" opening and lets you install a 6 1/2" speaker instead. That should allow a much shallower mounting depth. The trade-off would be in bass response, but it shouldn't be critical; there are many vehicles made with nothing larger than 6 1/2" speakers (or even smaller).

i'd be sure the Edmunds or Kelley Blue training guide fee first. Then i'd get an estimate of what it may fee to fix the motorcar to the degree you want. honest , lifelike or superb. If it may fee a lot more beneficial that the motorcar is worth, then you definately can be a lot more beneficial useful off searching for a automobile at present in this problem and purchase it. It takes very a lot of money to fix a automobile. 1980 corvettes have a tendency to be no longer truly collectible and overdue 60's early 70 fashions.

I would try copart.com or car-parts.com.
They're used, but they can tell you if they're all right.
