Here are a few:
Hi my name is ...... and yours is?
I saw you and wondered if you were here alone or with someone?
If the conversation is in a lull, you could say something like,
Do you like your job?
Do you have a large family - are you close with them?
Have you always lived here in .....?
What do you like to do for fun?
Don't talk much do you?
Oh, I have a ton of them - never a problem striking up a conversation or keeping it going for that matter providing the person is interesting to me.

Ask them about somethings that they like to do or about their family. Stuff about them. They can go on and on about themselves. Just make sure that you are able to talk about yourself too. It will be a real conversation. You won't have to think about it after that. It will all come naturally.
