I know the tranny they have in the DODGE Dakota R/T for the 5.9 can give out at liek 50K miles if your hard on it. other than that its no better or no worse than any other car manufacturer.

Dodge transmissions in there truck pre94 were good. after 1994 there has been some problems. But with normal use they should be ok. 2005-6 transmission did have a recall I think, But not sure.
Side note, a friend of mine has a 1996 dodge 2 wheel drive for a work truck for his construction business. He has put 2 transmissions in it. Both times I towed him in with my 1989 Chevy caviler. Yes....thats right! caviler. and in northern Michigan we have some steep hills and both times his truck was loaded down with his tools, ladders, etc.
Don't get me wrong, every car/truck has flaws. Just never buy a first year car/truck of a new production model. The first year the ford focus came out there were several recalls (A friend had one... got tired of all the recals and got a new car)
I have owned 2 Dodge trucks, but both were from the 80's... a 1986 D150 (2 wheel drive, 318 auto, 727 trans) and I hauled scrap to the scrap yard with it. I worked it hard and it took the abuse. The truck was a one owner truck with less than 100,000 miles and always garage kept. I hauled a front end loader bucket in the back that was well over 2 ton (4,000LBs).
Me I myself I like Chevy's cause there transmissions bolt to both big and small block (again, I'm talking about older Chevy's pre 95 or so...).
I just don't like newer cars/trucks... too many computer junk and you can't work on them your self half the time without havening a computer to diagnose the problem.
sorry for rambling....

Im pretty sure those are just rumors from retards who blew the tranny doing something stupid.
Ive had a 1996 f-150 that hit 300,000 miles, and is still running great.
I also just got rid of a 1997 chevy that had 400,000 miles on it, and ran great, but I hated the paint.
I also had a 1996 ram with the 8.0 V10, which is suppossedly a piece of crap, but it was the best of the 3 trucks.
I used to tow a 38" fifth wheel and the truck worked like a champ. 10,000lbs was like nothing to it.
Not one problem.I have also driven some of my friends newer trucks, and they arent all that much better than 1990's stuff.
My best friend has a 2005 f-250 diesel, and has had more problems than Ive had with any of my trucks, but he beats the crap out of it.
Im not sure what I would go for, I would just get the best of the ones I could afford.
I really liked my chevy though. It drove the best of any pickup Ive had, but the dodge was eqaully tough. The F-150 wasnt comparible, because it was a 1500. The dump trailer I towed with the chevy would ground out the f-150 when it was completely empty.

I'm a tech at a chry dodge dealer. I do 90% of the trans work in our shop. I can't remember when the last time was when I had to rebuild a truck trans.02-03 45rfe trans had a few problems with the accumulator cover plate braking or the screws breaking. I have only had to rebuild 2 rfe trans since they came out. The RE and RH trans have been very good lately. hope this helps

I owned a 96 2500. My trans let go at 96K. Wouldn't shift out of 3rd. My co-workers 97 trans let go at 93K. Mostly commuter miles on both so that BS about doing something dumb making them blow is just that. BS
So, yes Dodge trucks have transmission problems. Especially on early diesels. Ask any transmission shop or go on a Dodge truck forum. You'll see.

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 TRX and I haven't had any problems YET. I've heard that rumor myself and a little skeptical. I couldn't decide between a chevy silverado, toyota tundra, ford f150 or my dodge. Obviously, i got a dodge.

Look on craigslist. Practically every Dodge truck says it s had a tranny replaced. I always heard up til like 03-04 the trans cooler lines were too small diameter and couldn t and couldn t cool enough fluid volume fast enough.

It may not actually be a problem. Have you checked your transmission fuel level lately, perhaps you are low on fuel or need to change it. You didn't really give enough information for anyone to give you an accurate answer. But if your transmission is slipping than you need to check your fuel if that does not help than yes you probably have a problem.

It all depends on how you take care of the vehicle, abuse it, and it will not last long, take care of it; i.e. change oil, filter, etc. don't overload the vehicle, and don't neglect the servicing of the rest of the truck and no matter what make and model it will last you many years. Abuse it and it will leave you stranded somewhere. Treat it right and it will get you home every time.
