Not all schools use the same point value for each letter grade; some A's start at 92 points for example. You probably already know how many points equal an A based on your past report cards. Some schools also 'weight' classes depending on the degree of difficulty. For instance, a special education class or tech school prep class may not have the same point value as a college prep class. This is not always 'advertised', so you may have to ask the guidance department or a teacher whom you trust. Generally, you add up all the values of the grades of the major classes that have a full point value (maths, English, sciences, etc.) then divide by the number of the classes. That will give you a good estimate. You will gain or lose a few points for the 1/2 credit classes (Band, Art?, Phys Ed, etc) that you took. Also, sometimes a running GPA is written on each end-of-year's report card.

A=4 B=3 C=2 D=1
Add your grade for each class and divide by the number of classes.

AP or honors classes may be worth 5 for an A.
