If you can claim yourself, you should still file taxes because you can get a $30 refund this year for the telephone excise tax. If you had absolutely no other income to report then all you need to do is get a 1040 and fill out the personal info. at the top and write in the correct amount for the telephone tax refund.
If you can't claim yourself, because you still live with your parents or whatever the reason may be, then you don't need to file a return.

Unemployment comp is taxable income for federal, but usually is not for state. If that was your only income, the amount is probably low enough that you wouldn't have to file, but if you do file, you have to report the unemp comp and pay taxes on it if any are due.
If you were unemployed all year and did NOT receive unemployment comp, then you'd only have to file if you had other income that took you over the limit to be required to file.

go to www.irs.gov and call them toll free. UI is tax free in most cases. but you can check and see if you are below the income level to have to file. if you had kids or you still may qualify for the earned income credit. also on the irs site.
the irs can help you decide. they did me when i had to stop working.
