It makes them ask the uncomfortable question: "What if all these things I've invested so much time and energy in are FALSE?"
They don't want to think they spent that much time on religion, donated that much money to religion, and gave up that much pleasure for religion - and then have that religion turn out to be a pack of lies.
If they're unhappy in their religion and they still believe it is correct, they hate to see other people happy. They console themselves by thinking, "Nonbelievers are sinners who are going to hell. My life right now may suck, but once I'm dead, I'll have a great afterlife."

I have often wondered that myself. It actually parallels the answers here on Yahoo's Polls and Surveys. People will give a "thumbs down" for an answer to just a simple survey question such as "What is your favorite breed of dog?", for example. People are so opinionated that they think that their answer is the ONLY correct answer. There is no gray area--only black or white. Often times, people of faith will not even consider the idea that maybe--just maybe--there is no God Almighty. None of us know for sure what belief is accurate.

I don't. I think it's wishful thinking on your part. Some atheists have more of a need to "convert" others than most religious people do. You really don't understand having faith. As a Christian, I understand why you don't believe and I expect it since God told us most people won't believe. You just keep proving God right. It's actually a blessing.
May God Bless you.

They can't accept the idea of no higher power and afterlife. The biggest thing is they can look forward to is going somewhere whether heaven, reincarnation, or another plane of existence after death. Atheism says there is nothing after this which removes all hope of anything better.

It doesn't bother me at all. People have every right to believe or not believe in whatever they want.
I think those who do get upset find it threatening somehow to be told that what they believe is false to others.

You got it all wrong. The bible tells us to expect others to not believe. In fact the bible makes it clear that the majority or people will not believe. So I don't know where you got your info. WE EXPECT THIS - WE DON"T GET UPSET!

I have a strong faith in God and I believe we have several lives, and living in this world several times makes us progress spiritually, therefore when I meet someone atheist I dont get upset at all, because I know he/she is at his/her level of progress. If he/she doesnt believe in God in this life, he/she will believe Him next life.

As a person of faith, it isn't different beliefs that offend me, it's the laziness that chooses not to use spell check that bugs me.

They think being without faith is the worst possible "choice". Then again, I couldn't choose to believe even if I wanted to. It's impossible now. I can't "unreason" my way out of the only logical conclusion now that I've reached it.
