If there is a medical reason to, like obesity, high blood pressure, etc. then maybe it's a good idea. Otherwise I believe it's ok for an 11 year old to be a little chubby and have some baby fat.

Even very young children may need to 'diet' if they've put on more weight than is healthy for their age and height.
Getting and keeping your weight under control now will help you do better at keeping it under control when you get older. As you age, it seems it's easier to gain the pounds and more difficult to lose them.
Try to eat a well balanced diet, keep sweets and junk foods as the occasional treat, and be active in some way every day. That's about all it should take for most young people to maintain a healthy size.

Why use the term diet? As far as i am concerned although i am 18 and i am too young to go on a diet because life is for living! A diet puts limits on what you eat and i am not one for that. You just eat a healthy diet and only eat the recommended amount for someone your age, including lots of fruit and veg and less of the chocolate and sweet stuff. Remember if you are happy about the weight/size you are that is all that matters not what anyone else says!

that depends on alot of things. right off the bat i would say no because you need the nutrients in good food to develop your still growing body. although the u.s. has an obisity problem so go to web MD and you can calculate u'r BMI thats u'r body mass index. it will tell you what you should be at for your hieght and age, but if your a little off of what they tell you dont worry cuz everyones body type is different. the way i am shaped the wieght they say i should be at is about 15-20 pounds to thin. and remember you only get one body so be good to it.(p.s. 80% of men suveyed thought renee zellweger looked sexyer at a size 12 than when shes skinny)

The only reason a person your age should diet is if it's concerning a medical problem. If not, 11 is just to young to diet. You're still growing and your metabolism is high enough to allow you to eat a lot. Don't worry about it!

It depends on the girl and her body type and mindset.
If there's a chance that she might become too self-conscious and develop an eating disorder, then no, it's not safe. But if it's a safe plan like exercising and just eating better, then sure, it's okay.
But it's not okay for your mom to tell you that you're chubby! That's just plain rude.

yes, but not a serious slim fast diet. But yes you must eat more fruits and veggies, no junk food. Less carbs, more exercise, yes it is healthy as long as you eat right. If your chubby you have to lose weight. But dont obsess, just some moderate changes.

I don't believe in the word diet it just me think of not eating and over exercising. try more to get healthy and losing weight well happen. A fun way of exercising (and don't over doing it) is getting a "dance dance revolution" it's real fun and most of my friends have one too. and just try to eat a bit more healthy but don't not have a treat now and then.^_^ I hope things will get better for you

Talk to your mom about why she thinks you're "chubby". If she just wants to show you off to her friends or something, don't go with it. If she wants consult with your doctor about a possiblility of obesity, then that's different. And of course, it's your final decision to go on a diet.
