What's up everyone. I find this Yahoo! Answers to be very informative and I would like to thank everyone who participates.

I love my stepmother to death. She works as an RN in the psychiatric unit and absolutely loves it. The problem is EVERYDAY she does nothing but mopes around the house and watches T.V. (Law & Order, Strong Medicine) She never speaks unless she is spoken to, and if she is spoken to, she's very modest with her choice of words.

She just seems so independent. The only time she will come out of her "shell" is when she is drinking. That is the only time she is actually cool. But my father is in love with her, so whatever. But she's kind of a ***** and sometimes only cares about her and herself only. I once saw her looking up information on the web regarding a personality disorder.

What do you people think ?

She may be burned out by her job. It's very difficult to work with people in crises day after day. If she loves her job, it may mean that she genuinely cares about the patients she works with. If that's the case, she may give so much of herself on the job, that's there's nothing left for her. That would explain her irritability and need to retreat into herself. Have her look up 'burn out', 'secondary post traumatic stress', and 'compassion fatigue'.

maybe your step mother was looking up a personality disorder because one of the patients where she works has been diagnosed?

as far as her quiet personality and not saying much -- some people don't have a lot to say...and only say things when they feel they have something worthwile to let fly outta their mouths!

i'm sure she cares about you and others... there is a saying "take care of YOU first"....and it's true.. that is what we all need to do...

(everyne can be a b***h sometimes! tee hee). at least your step mother doesn't seem to make waves.
