I would think that they could try to cash it and see what the bank says. It migth be the case that it has to be reissued but the money is not GONE....if the check is not honored by the bank just call the irs and tell them to reissue it.
They will have to do a bit of research but they will send you a new one

Just because you refuse to actually look into the matter and do some basic research doesn't mean the laws don't exist. As the poster above correctly points out, the entirety of Volume 26 of the United States Code, which is the compendium of federal laws, deals with taxation and revenue. Try reading it, it's the law.

Normally if a person doesn't receive their income -tax check return within a certain time they claim, so it a bit strange that you should try to cash it after two year. But if you have a reason, the feds may let you appeal. Then you may you may need a lawyer, at your expense, so you may have to mark it up to experience....

Banks won't cash a check that old, but if you request a replacement from the IRS, they should send it to you. Give them a call.

It's probably too late. But I think I would try. If they don't honor it, they still owe you the money so you might end up researching check replacement with the IRS.

there should be a line on the check that says how long you have to cash it. if you cant find anything on the check that says that, you should be able to cash it
Why would you keep a check laying around that long?

I believe there is no time limit on federal checks! Call any bank and ask them.
