Do you have to have a special type of gun to shoot plastic bullets??? Or can you use a real gun

There really isn't such a thing as non lethal plastic bullets. Yes, they are less lethal then "regular" bullets, but to associate them with actual non-lethal methods is a mistake. At short ranges a plastic bullet will kill just as effectivley as any other round.
The other option you have is the wax type bullets that are set in a regular conventional case and fired with a primer only. I don't see a whole lot of use for them other then as a training device. But, they won't cycle a semi-auto and aren't very accurate. I think there's a plastic variation of these too, if that's what you're looking for. Perhaps Cabella's as mentioned above or your local gunstore could hook you up.

Bound's hubby here:

Speer manufacturers a plastic/rubber bullet for target practice. It is inserted into an empty, but primed (no powder) cartridge case and fired in a traditional handgun. I believe these bullets are made in both .38 and .45. NOTE: this projectile should never be loaded with gunpowder!

Good luck.

Go to a gun store and ask about Simunition. They are wax and leave a colored paintball type mark when they strike someone. They hurt like crazy too. Yes, it can be fired through real weapons but most need modified. For instance in the military we had to modify our m9s with special barrels to fire the wax rounds.

They're not available to the general public, only law enforcement and military.
This is mostly because the general public is stupid and will think they can just shoot at people with them and they'll be fine. If not used properly they can easily be just as lethal as lead.

Plastic bullets, even blanks will injure, blind, maim or even kill. Ever heard of criminal/civil liability? You have to ask yourself, "What do I want plastic bullets for???"
