I am talking about average living where I won't need to depend on anyone or be in embarrasing situations. I am not talking about anything extravagant.

An average living?
For a single person, 4000 a month is more than enough if you get a decent place to live. The largest part of your expenditure will be your rent, obviously. You can get a good small flat for 10 to 15 thousand a year. Flats in new buildings and/or bigger flats will be about 20 to 28 thousand a year. Villas from 40+ thousand.

For families, it depends, some families can even live on 4000 a month too, but for a comfortable living, its usually around 8 to 12 thousand per month.

All figures in Saudi Riyals of course...

The cost of living is comparatively less in Saudi Arabia than other Gulf countries. The room rent is cheaper, 50% less than UAE. I can say Saudi Riyal 2000 (01 US $ = 3.75 SR) is moderately enough to meet your monthly expenses in average terms.
