Come up with other things to talk about--the news, for example. Celebrity gossip may be petty, but at least it's typically less harmful than spreading rumors about people you know.
It usually works just to think before you speak. If you're still really dying to say something, write it down in a private journal or tell your dog or something.

The best thing to do is keep your mouth closed when something like that is screaming to come out. No matter how much you want to say something, you just have to keep it in. It's hard and it will take a while, but try kicking the habit or whatever.. I don't know if it will apply to this case, but try not to say gossip for 21 days or something...

A child your age knows the difference between good and evil, you have already established this. I'm very proud to see a young man of 13 asking this question and I believe it is an honest question.
I would say that prayer is the key to everything in your life. If it concerns you, it concerns God.
Read the Book of Proverbs, it is easy reading and ask God for wisdom to know how to handle this. And continue on with the Ten Commandments so satan won't try to force his evil; upon you..

Stay out of other peoples business. I can't believe boy's have gotten so involved in gossip. When I was in school, boy's rarely spread gossip. They were too busy playing basketball or doing something else.....other than gossip. I HATE gossipers.

Being the jokester is a thing most people do because of lack of self confidence.....................
When you think you are about to start gossiping about someone, why not think of one nice thing to say about that person. Even if it is, "I never noticed that.".............."he's always been nice to me"...................anything except the gossiping that you are used to doing, now? Think of a nice thing to say in PLACE of the gossip. You, also, might ask yourself, why do you hang out with other gossips? If you don't want to gossip, maybe, you could use some different friends.

I have the same problem as you do. I think that the solution isn't something to which you can just say "I want to stop." Everytime you feel the urge to say something or crack a joke about someone, just stifle it. You have to deal with every situation as it comes. To look at the entire picture and imagining yourself not talking about others for the rest of your life is a lot to take in.
I hope this helps.

Pretty soon people are going to wonder why you are so insecure that you need to talk about other people. Finding inner strength will pay off in the long run, and that gossiping gets old... stop the b.s. now before someone calls you on it later in life - take it from me, I used to do it too.

When somebody spreads a nasty rumor about you let's say for example, you pissed your pants, they caught you eating from a garbage, or you are gay, then I bet you won't be so quick to talk about other people!! Now when I say the last thing i don't mean anything bad against gay people or that they are bad, I'm just thinking about what would most likely be the worst a kid can say about another kid that would devestate him at your age.

First, are you really 13? Anyway . . . if you are indeed 13, it's part of your puberty/hormone rage. Also, try to think what it would feel like if you heard someone gossiping about you.

hi
change your pespective and imagine the outcome/feelings if you were on the receiving end of your gossip. gossip is poison to you and those you are gossiping about - we all do it - its tough not to - and you will learn to stop yourself if you choose to.
trying your best to follow something ??? stop trying and start doing.. ;-) just a little tip.
just my opinion & good luck
xx
