drinkin only water.

today at the grocery store i bought some rice cakes
sort of to act as a knock off for my urge to eat sweet.

i dont plan on eating them all the time just sparingly but is it ok or should i just cut em out all together and tough it out?

There are probably better foods to satisfying your sweet tooth. Rice cakes are very refined and have a high-gylcemic index rating. This means that when you eat one, your blood sugar spikes. You'll be hungry and tired an hour or two later. Rapid increases in blood sugar also can cause your body to sock away excess calories as fat ... probably not what you are aiming for.

I'm really not sure how rice cakes got classified as a "diet food", but I would generally avoid them. Empty carbs.

Instead, I would recommend apples. There are some very good sweet varieties like Pink Lady and Honey Crisp that do a nice job satisfying urges for sweets. They are filled with slow-digesting fiber and water so they will fill you up and keep your blood sugar levels nice and even. Eat them plain or dip them in a tablespoon of natural peanut butter for a carmel apple type flavor.

One medium apple contains about 75 calories, zero fat and 3 grams of fiber.

Other good options are blueberries and raspberries, which are low in calories and high in antioxidents.

Best of luck!

I too have started eating more healthy. So congrats, You can do it!
When you eat the veggies make sure you cut them your self. I find when you get the bagged ones they taste different (more cost effective too)
Best to look at the calories on the package and judge for yourself from there if you can add them.
Keep up the workouts and drink plenty of water to remove the toxins from strengthening your muscles. It will save you the leg cramps in the middle of the night.
Seek the help of a nutritionist but don't go crazy about it. As long as you keep moving for at least 15 min and eat right you can lose weight and gain muscle.

Good Luck to you.
Rice cakes are great. I have bought the chocolate ones when I needed a fix and also plain ones and dabbed some penut butter on them.
I'd keep them handy just for the "urge".

Have you tried a detox tea? I hear this helps and also gives in to a sweet craving about mid afternoon.

Lift a 5 pound bag of full sugar and when you lose that much as a start pat yourself on the back!!

rice cakes are not as healthy as they appear. they are high on the glycemic index and provide little nutrients. for those with a high amount of body fat high GI carbs should be consumed at a minimum and when they are consumed it should be early in the day when insulin sensitivity is high and the level of activity is typically high as well
