Our biscuits are like a light (not sweet) roll usually made with buttermilk. Pillsbury Grands in the tube are good (get the flaky ones) if you don't want to make biscuits yourself. And all you do is bake them, split them, put them on a plate, and pour white sausage gravy over them. It's a very southern US dish. It's really good.

Biscuits and gravy is a popular breakfast dish in U.S. cuisine. It is made of (American-style) biscuits covered in thick "country" or "white" gravy made from the drippings of cooked pork sausage, white flour, milk, and often bits of real sausage, bacon, ground beef, or other meat. The gravy is often flavored with black pepper. In some parts of the South this is also called sawmill gravy. It is often made in a cast iron skillet and served with fried eggs and sausage patties or links.

Im British and did a semester at a Kentucky University last year. When we arrived our host took us to cracker barrel where they had loads of traditional dishes. When she ordered biscuits and gravy we thought it was a bit strange. But as the other person posted, they were like scones, very savoury. They had other things which were weird to us too! But lovely nonetheless.

I think they have them in mcdonalds too instead of muffins.

Biscuits are notably lots basically baking soda biscuits and the gravy over them is a white gravy with floor crimson meat sausage in it. i'm not interior the deep south yet it is my hubby's well known breakfast. i don't comprehend the entire soggy bread thought so I evade it in any respect fee. Grits are in reality floor corn/hominy and it fairly is like an oatmeal purely gritty :)

Hey Janice. This is a UK & Ireland site so when somebody mentions biscuits, we think of small, sweet things. How yummy does gravy over cookies sound to you?

Now I can't stop laughing.

I tried a biscuit once while on holiday it tasted like a scone, which was a very strange thing to have with some gravy.

I didn't enjoy it to much but I wasn't quite prepared for what I had.
