Mediation can not replace the REM sleep needed for your brain to relax

Like was mentioned in other answers, meditation just places your body in a very relaxed state.

However, sleep allows your body to repair itself on the cellular level. The REM sleep allows your brain to renew itself allowing you to wake up refreshed with a better mental attitude.

As much as meditation is good for mental health, sleep is good for overall health including mind and body.

Meditation isn't letting your body rest, it's just relaxation. Sleep allows your body to actually rest and maintain homeostasis within. So oooming won't help you replace your ZZZZs.
