Occult simply means "Knowlege kept secret"

for anything to be turly occult today is almost impossible, because just about everything is out there if you look hard enough. however in the last 1500 years it was very importent to keep some things secret. especialy if you were a Pagan or a Witch. (you could get burned, hung, drowned, or worse for that)

as for what my so called Occult path has done for me.

I am not a Celtic Pagan. i take Warrior traditions very seriously. i eat only after everyone else in my community has eaten, i take shelter from a storm only after everyone else is safe.. i treat people with the same respect and kindness that they show to others.

when i was 16, when i really started a spiritual path. i knew only the teachings of local Christian churches, and had examples only from christians as to what was acceptable behavior.. which was mostly,

it is ok so long as you do not get caught.
and if you bet caught ask forgivness.

there was no immediate or eternal consequences for actaions taken so long as you said "please forgive me."
this led me to believe that pretty much anything was ok so long as i felt bad about it.

this idea did not work well with me. my father had always been an eye for an eye person. so i felt that for order to be mantained that there must be some form of consequences for our actions even if we are very sorry for them..

then i learned about the eastern concept of Karma. and after that i decided to study many religions to see what they believed. the Celts seemed to have tha system that worked best with my beliefs. and it matched my belief in the Little People (fairies).

so what do i get out of it. i am a better person. because i believe that when i die my Actions will be what i am held accountable for by the gods that i choose to worship. not my ammount of faith in something that i cannot see. but my very actions and how i react to differant situations. and i do my best to make decisions that are for the betterment of all in any given situation.

Occultism is just the study of the hidden - typically unknown knowledge.

Enligthenment could be considered occult...and such an endeavor is potentially dangerous. But it does not necessarily lead to madness.
