I've had it since October now. The cut appears, it crusts over and then it heals. No more than a week later it reappers. Its not herpes because I've seen picture on the internet and it looks nothing like it. My mother also has it but not my father! She went to see a doctor who said it was because of saliva that comes out of her mouth during the night... that can't be right can it? I just want to know what its called really. thats all. Its on the very corner of my lips so opening my mouth to eat can be very painful. Any ideas anyone?

Sounds like herpes, not all herpes is from sex. Chicken pox is a form.

It's called angular cheilitis! It can be caused by lots of things...

It could be herpes though, herpes sometimes does form as a crack instead of blisters, and can recur frequently. This isn't too likely though, you're right.

When I was getting cracks in the corners of my mouth I tried putting tons of random things on it, and I found that miconazole cream (for yeast infections/athelete's foot) worked really well and made it stop. I can't say why as I clearly didn't have oral thrush... but you might want to try that!

It happens. You just need to be careful with overstretching the skin in that general area. It's okay for it to hurt because it's an open wound, it'll go away and come back. Just be careful when you eat.

I have had it, too. I think it is caused by dry skin or a vitamin deficiency. Try putting Neo-sporin on it before you go to bed,
