I don't know about you brother, but I am a revert and I tend to pay no attention to hadiths.
What kind of a muslim AM I to ignore such things? Well, I just read the Koran. To me hadiths carry all the faults of the men who created them and are biased.
Believe me when I say there is internal corruption with the leaders of Islam just as there are with the leaders of Christianity. It might take different form but it is still aberration from the original intent.
I consider the afterlife carefully and live my life well. As a Muslim who is not Arabic in philosophy, that takes me to some interesting places that are considered mainstream. As a Sufi, I look at life and death differently so I cannot answer for most.
No comment on #2. Foolishness.
3. Of course we should have our house in order at all times. No one ever guarantees us tomorrow so this is the wisest course of action. Of course, as iI write this, I have laundry piling up in the corner!
I just am a bad Muslim I suppose when it comes to the hadiths. I have always had excellent guidance from a few people I know and these men, Imams from northerm Iraq, have never quoted hadiths in my education. So they are just not part of my consciousness.

This guy nails Islam PERFECTLY with wit and charisma.
What really bothers me is the unscrupulous men who take uneducated and dedicated young men and twist them according to their own agenda. These men take parts of the Koran and leave out much, so that these youths commit crimes that are completely unislamic in origin. This is done by all sides of a war.
I see very little difference in the sight of a young Christian man bowing before the Cross before going to drop bombs on civilians from a confused jihadist going to BE the bomb! Both are an aberration of what God/Allah intended!

the people who collected the hadith didn't just chat up any dude and ask him to tell an interesting story about the Prophet (pbuh). they researched their material quite diligently. for example bukhari would perform istikharah prayer before writing any hadith down.
we as muslims have to blv in the hadith otherwise why would one of the articles of faith be prophethood. shouldn't blving in the books just be enough since supposedly that's all that matters?
tell me- where in the qur'an does it tell you how to pray?wudu, tayammum are mentioned but theres nothing on prayer. so now are you saying that prayer is or isn't valid?or maybe just that the way we pray is not right since its not mentioned in the qur'an?
1.life and afterlife are two different things. sure they're connected like apples and oranges are-they're fruits after all!but the life here on earth is filled with temptation, struggle, death, pain, etc. if you blv in the one true God then you ain't going to get that in the afterlife since there can be no temptation, struggle, death and pain in heaven. of course if you dont blv then earth life is going to seem like a piece of cake compared to heaven, don't you think?
2.surah 43; ayat 61
"And he (prophet isa) shall be a known sign for the Hour . Therefore have no doubt concerning it. And follow Me! This is the straight path."
all the qur'an scholars agree that this verse indicates that prophet isa will return to earth before the judgment day.
also remember christianity came from the same God.
3. yes of course we should be ready for the judgement day just as one should be ready to die at anytime. but why wouldn't God give us details about the coming of the judgement day? (mind you not all of these are in the hadith, quite a few are in the qur'an (part 30). )
i mean wouldn't you wanna have a little heads up to face the biggest exam of your life???
as for the imams thing- what they all need is a better education. also i think some muslims need to understand that being religious and praying and fasting is good and all but it doesn't necessarily make someone a sheikh. it takes years of education to become one. so muslims should be careful as to who we go to with religious questions.
at the end of the day,
only God and the Prophets were infallible. everyone after that can and do make mistakes. we do the best that we can and remember God is oft-forgiving.

We leave it to scholars: men and women

of great piety and knowledge who knew the Arabic language and had a chain of transmission and teachers back to the Prophet (peace be upon him) to explain these things or if we are smart and pious enough we try and become scholars ourself
Re your comments
"2. Jesus is coming back. Where on earth does it say that Jesus is coming back in the Quran? Isnt this a teaching that has been passed over from Christianity?"
please visit
http://www.jesuswillreturn.com/index2.html
3." If no one knows the future but God, why are there so many different accounts of signs of the hour, big signs, little signs etc. Arent we supposed to be ready for Judgement Day at all times?"
because God revealed the knowledge of these things to his Prophet (peace be upon him). When exactly judgement day happens isnt our concern since weall have our own judgement day (death) and there is no going back after that - that is why we need to choose the correct belief and not just follow the whims of teh herd or of society or our peers

There are much more than 2000 authentic hadeeths.
2) How does the fact that Jesus (peaceb e upon him) comes back contradict the Qur'an? Simply because the Qur'an doesnt state it directly, doesnt mean that it contradicts the Qur'an.
3) We are to be ready for Judgement Day at all times yes, but that still contradict that there are signs, even if we do not directly recognize them, that show it is near.
Do they then await (anything) other than the Hour, that it should come upon them suddenly? But some of its portents (indications and signs) have already come, and when it (actually) is on them, how can they benefit then by their reminder? [Quran 47:18]

Hi, first of all there is no contradiction between qur'an and Sahih hadiths. all what you need is to understand them.
1- Yes they are different things, life is the stage of work, afterlife is the stage of reward. good work and repent will not be accepted after your death.
2- I have discussed this point in details with another member, you can read our discussion here:
http://whyislam.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=17454&PN=1
3- Yes no one knows the future but God, Hadith is inspired by God. Muhammad (sas) didn't speak of his own authority.
EDIT: shaybani_yusuf
Thanks for the site, it looks great.

1. I have never heard of such a thing and infact I would doubt that it's true.
2. It says it in the quran that jesus is coming back according to my knowledge.
3. Only god knows the future. the signs of the hour came from god, they didn't come from the prophet mohamed's mind or anything like that, the signs were told to him.
