I was just wondering about this. My mother works for a law firm and asked me this and I thought i would pick your brains.

Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2
This is the best and most stable.
The hardware requirements would be a second hard-drive or a connection to another computer or a CD burner to back up all the documents and client profiles and database and contact information.
Make sure you use an Anti-Virus also.

Microsoft office, could organize all of the data that the law firm needs to store and you can save all the information that you want there, you can send emails to clients, you can print papers, everything! good luck

I believe Windows can be quite useful at the admistrative level.
