Would marriage still be viewed as a Holy union or more procedural?

It would not be a holy union. Some may look forward to the renewal, others would look forward to letting the license lapse and get a new 'car'.

Well it would make sense but people would get pissed off because it is hurting the morality of marriage by assuming it needs a certificate rather than being a life-long thing. But on the other hand, it is already diminished with the requirement that it needs a piece of paper and since you know people get divorced all the time it might be a good thing. I think it should be an optional renewal, that way the divorce would not be so costy.

I have never heard of this, most people do not even have a marriage license at the time they get a license. Now when I got married and wanted a driver's license with my new last name I had to, in order to show why I was getting a new ID and name.

I think marriage would be viewed a lot like something less permanent and less of a Holy union. On a positive note, it keeps things in perspective in couples to continue to be at their best to their partners, since if one changes their minds about the marriage, it would be a lot easier to divorce just by not renewing.

It might actually be a good thing. In some Pagan cultures, marriages were temporary, and it caused the couple to really take a look at their relationship every once in a while and decide if it was really worth renewing, or if they were just staying together for convenience. As a result, marriages were much stronger.

Good question. I wonder how many people would renew their marriage! I would doubt my renewal at times. I guess it depends on how often you have to renew the license. I think marriage already is procedural in a way right now.

You'd probably have to pay for renewal and it would be seen as procedural. That would be ridiculous if you had to renew it all the time. That would just be seen as a scam for the government to get more cash off you and as a result many people would not get married to avoid these extra payments.

Good question, don't know about the renewal part, but why not just get our government out of the marriage business completely? Better be careful what you say about this Divorce lawyers are watching, I bet.

Marriage certificates do not have any significance. The society hardly ever asks any couple to prove their married status. People remain married not because of the certificate but because their lives get intertwined and there are children, memories and relations they cannot tear apart.
