At first, we thought she was a male canary, so we were really surprised to find the eggs, and since she's alone, we know they can't be fertile. (There is another canary near her in a separate cage. We arent sure of the gender of this one either.) She will generally peck holes in them anyway. We took the first ones out, because they were beginning to smell, but I'm worried if I take these out, she'll lay more. Should I put fake eggs in there, instead?

Yes, put fake eggs in there or hard boil the ones she has. You can remove them when she gives up on them. Lower the ammount of daylight she is getting to 12 hours or less. This will help to stop her from laying.

Also, make sure she has pleanty of calcium in her diet. That is a lot of eggs for a tiny bird.

When you remove her eggs, she will continue to lay more. Leave them in for a bit and see what she does with them. You could use fake eggs to stop her from laying. There is always the chance that she could become egg-bound which is very serious. If you have a nest in the cage, it's a good idea to remove it. The only times canaries need a nest is when you have a male and female together and you want them to have babies.

Constantly laying eggs, though isn't healthy for her. With each clutch she loses calcium. Buy a good calcium supplement and add it to her food. There are powders and liquids (to add to water).

She could also be laying eggs because she is near the other canary. Try putting a cloth over that side of her cage. This may help if she doesn't see him/her. Good Luck to you.
