For 3 days I experienced back pain after eating. The pain would go through my back and into the front of my stomach. After awhile, it would just disappear and at times seemed to get worse when I layed down. My upper abdomen otherwise felt discomfort to the touch if I had not eaten recently. The last day I felt this was Friday morning, then Friday night I just felt some nausea. I ate something Friday night, then Saturday afternoon I got up and I threw up. I was on tapazole for an overactive thryroid, could it be this causing it or something else?

This is a sign of an esophageal ulcer or other gastrointestinal disorder....your signs of change in pain after you eat and when you lie down are highly suggestive of this.

Nausea and vomiting can be side effects of Tapazole. Be sure to discuss these symptoms with your doctor.

These symptoms sound similar to when I had gallstones and had to have my gallbladder removed. Especially if the pain is in your mid to upper back area. You might want to get checked out! You didn't say how old you are so if you're young it's probably not gallbladder, but if you're like over 30 or so it might be.
