You can release dopamine into your system by various means...

Remembering something good, taking drugs, excercise, praising God, taking a poo...

I think that's been said a few times, but sadly, those messengers of logic are quickly lynched or burned at the stake. ;)

I agree that a "dopamine rush" is the mechanism by which we neurologically experience pleasure, and as you say, the release of dopamine can be effected by several means. The neurological response is interpreted as real whatever those means may be.

Can the brain tell the difference between "the love of God" and "a nice piece of pie?"

No, it cannot. It treats both of these as equally real.

Since the brain is the only means we have of perceiving reality, and the brain interprets both as "real" in much the same way, we cannot say for certain that the "Love of God" is any less real than "a nice piece of pie."

If people buy illegal drugs and take them despite a risk of overdose just to get high, and other people can get high just by saying "I love you, God," which ones do you think are having more fun?

And as for the "love of God" being just a dopamine rush, that's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

It's a dopamine rush? ok well since we're talking science, explain to me when someone is suffering from cancer and it has spread to all parts of this person's body and there is no hope left, a bunch of relatives and friends gather together and pray and the very next day there is no sign of cancer, the person is completely cured? You can't even answer this question because doctors have seen many miracles of this sort happen and they can't explain it.

Um....how else do we "feel" emotions? Just like anyone else. God designed us to "feel" that way. When you feel love for your parents or your spouse it is a dopamine rush as well. Nothing strange about it at all. Some christians like to hyperspiritualize feelings but I think there is a danger in that. I don't doubt that some, including myself, have experienced very emotionally fulfilling prayer times or in answered prayer...but a feeling is as fickle as a flame. I don't base my beliefs in God or my christian faith on "feelings". I use my mind. We are not to renew our hearts, but to renew our minds. Our hearts will follow wherever our minds take us.

What causes the dopamine rush that triggers the feeling?

You can choose to believe that all feelings and emotions are just biological and that we are not primarily spiritual but chemical beings. I'm sure that brings you great comfort.

Thankfully, the truth about God does not rest on your beliefs or opinions or my beliefs or opinions. The truth exists outside of our beliefs and stands whether we choose to believe it or not.

Chemical and biological activities in the body do not negate the existence of spiritual activities. To deny the spiritual side of mankind takes, I believe, an incredible amount of faith. Unfortunately it is not the kind of faith that saves.

Blessings.

Do you realize you just said there is no such thing as love at all? For the same would apply for love of (anyone).

Love - separate from the chemicals and horomones of the body - does exists. It can not be reduced to chemistry only.

Wow! Isn't it wonderful that God loves us enough to give us the chemical dopamine?--He created our bodies to work that way! ;o]

For you it is just a dopamine rush.
For those who have stopped ridiculing and seriously looked into matters WITH A HUMBLE HEART, it is a way of life.
Go ahead ....you can laugh now.
