they boil it first and then they cool it so it's more refreshing with cocktail sauce. You can't boil something and then say it's still raw. You cooked it

Let them eat it how ever they want, but a shrimp cocktail is made from size. Popcorn size through 10's. Most common is 20-30's per pound.
Boiling is the preferred method. Get a package of shrimp boil if you want the extra flavor. Heat a pot of water to boil. Throw in the shrimp, and when they turn pink (in about 3 minutes) they are done. Don't overcook them. Remove from the heat, and immerse in ice water. Peel, serve over a leaf of lettuce for garnish, with rockport sauce, or tartar sauce.
Don't get the precooked shrimp. They are absolutely tasteless.
And the only use I've found for raw shrimp is for bait!

Cocktail shrimp are indeed cooked. Generally boiled in water flavored with "crab boil", a collection of spices, also most people add vinegar or lemon juice to the water. They are then chilled and served cold. By the way raw shrimp come in many colors: white, pink, brown, tiger stripped, but all shrimp are cooked if they are a solid pink color.

RE:
Is cocktail shrimp raw?
because I was having an argument with my friends about this and some say it is others say it's not and is boiled. Then one said that it was boiled but still raw..does this make sense?

Traditional cocktail shrimp are boiled after being cleaned of the legs and such. At that point, they are either served fresh (which is within a few days) or they have to be frozen (which you would then thaw and serve). Cheers.

Cocktail shrimp is NOT raw....it has been boiled (therefore has been cooked)...and then frozen. And that how you buy them at the grocer's - frozen (but already cooked). To serve, just follow the directions in the package. Yummy!

The shrimp is cooked (steamed or broiled) and then cooled. It is not raw. Raw shrimp is grey, slimy and chewey.
