Puppies should receive their first set of shots at 6 weeks. Then the second set 3-4 weeks after the first. The last set should be given 3-4 weeks after the second. Then 3-4 weeks after the last set of puppy shots (which should be around 16 weeks) the puppy should receive a DHLPP Booster and a rabies shot.

The vaccination protocol is as follows:

8-9 weeks distemper/parvo/canine hepatitis/adenovirus-2
12- 14 weeks as above
16 - 18 weeks repeat as above
20 weeks or older rabies vaccination

one year from date of last vaccination boosters then not any again for 3 years (unfortunately there are some states that require rabies to be done yearly)

lepto, parainfluenza, kennel cough (bordatella) & lymes is not recommended for all dogs. It should only be done for thsoe dogs/puppies at a high risk of exposure

coronavirus, giardia and dental vacciantions are NOT recommended for any dog/puppy ever.

Do NOT vaccinate a puppy before it has completed it's 7th week. It can iterfer with natural immunity, supress immune systems and can leave the puppy suseptible to the very illness the vaccination was suppose to protect against.

The above is the protocol in place by the AAHA/AVMA and all 27 vet schools.
For more vaccine info go to the AAHA site or to Dr. Jean Dodds or Dr. Ron Schultz sites. If possible get the November 2006 copy of the Whole Dog Journal. It has a great easy to understand article on vaccinating.

Deworming on pups and their mom should be done at 2, 4, 6 & 8 weeks of age and then periodically after.

Pups have a series of "puppy shots". They can be started at any time in the first couple months but should be started very soon. Youll have to ask a vet to schedule them, they are about a month apart and there are three series. Then the rabies shot comes later.

And hey- Sophy take it easy, not everyone is a know it all. Its a legit question, they just should be asking their vet. You are the only one coming off like a *****- not the asker

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tinyurl.im/hbGym

By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.

To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

have you ever noticed how certain people always admonish you for not being perfect in this life and your dogs life. Do not pay them any attention--they are so-called "know it alls" and make me sick as they are just trying to make the world think they are smart but "ya know this world has a way of weeding those kind out" and the sooner the better for me. How about you? The main thing is to get the puppy some worm and heart--then deal with rabies treatment --then u be ok

go to the vet!!! the first thing you should do when you get a dog, puppy or not is go to the vet!!!

the vet will put the puppy on a vaccination schedule. and will teach you all that you need to know about when to do things for your puppy, like when to spay/neuter etc. good luck!

Most vets advise when they are weaned, or at 6-8 weeks.
Here is a chart of the most commonly recommended schedule> http://www.drsfostersmith.com/pic/article.cfm?aid=85
Consult with your local veterinarian to determine the appropriate vaccination schedule for your dog. Recommendations vary depending on the age, breed, and health status of the dog, the potential of the dog to be exposed to the disease, the type of vaccine, whether the dog is used for breeding, and the geographical area where the dog lives or may visit.
