Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword

For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

The Word of GOD will separate even families if adhered to. the Word is above all presumptions.

HEB 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

He also said"I did not come to destroy the Law but to fulfill it, and until heaven and earth disappear not one jot or tittle will disappear from the Law". so, the Law of God (ten commandments) is still in effect- this is how daughter against her mother fits in- We as children are taught to do as our parents have done without any questions(I am referring to the holidays most people observe and the Sunday worship). God said to keep the Sabbath(4th commandment). the Bible says to keep the Sabbath(the apostles kept the Sabbath even after Jesus was risen). If you do as the Bible tells you and not your parents they tend to get angry(your in a way telling them they are wrong). people say they worship on Sunday because Jesus rose on that day- the mention of it is but once in the Bible and in the text it tells you that the verse is not found in older manuscripts of the Bible. humm. the hoildays are all pagen - we say that we are doing them for God- but God said "when I bring you out of Egypt into Canaan, do not do as they do- and do not worship Me in their ways". humm. There is reference to christmas and easter in the Bible, and not in a good way-- so, our family started keeping Sabbath and not the traditional holidays-the rest of our family was miffed to say the least- want to know who your true family is? Keep the Sabbath and find out. here is a question for you-How many clean animals did Noah bring into the ark?

That the time for HIM to set up HIS Kingdom of eternal peace was not here yet. HE knew what it would cost for the Jews (who were the only ones ,mainly, who believed in GOD at the time) to understand that they would not need to offer sacrifices anymore for their sins. This Law of GOD had been given to them by Moses and Jesus knew that they would cling to it for a long time to come. The great upheaval would come as ppl broke away from the old traditions to accept Grace and the Perfect sacrifice that HE would offer in offering Himself.

His WORDS are Sharper than a Double Edged Sword ... Having his spirit, and talking like him, while having a family that practices Black Magic, Witch-craft, Islam or any False God religion ... It's a sword to the family that aren't devoted Christians, understand ?

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

It's not thats what He wanted to do, but He knew it was bound to happen. Have you not been paying attention to the attitudes in here. Jesus said He would be a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense. Just mention Jesus in here and watch the unbelievers get offended.(For no good reason)

Jesus did not want to set people against each other.
However, he was realistic.
He knew not everybody in the family would accept his teachings.
He knew those who would not accept would ridicule.
It would be similar to you coming out of the closet.
You'd prefer everyone just accept, but you know it would cause controversy.

There will be those who accept Him as Lord and those that don't.
I had this happen in my own family.
I had one who was from the other side. ( one who was out to cause me trouble whenever we were in contact ). Very tenacious I might add. Finally after 18 years I had enough. I dealt with him with finality.
I had some that thought I was far out.
I had some that were respectful.

I think that it means that he will bring justice and set people against each other for what they believe so that the true believers will come to him and not hang on to others.

I think a lot of the meaning of those words was lost in the translation. This is just my opinion, but I think the message was to question everything that is taught by your elders. Sounds like people are getting hung up on semantics.

He's acknowledging that His message will not be believed by everyone. He knows that people will fight even though He didn't want them to. Non believers will attack believers and zealous believers who don't quite get it will attack non believers. Then there are the those that He has to send to war to stop injustice. etc.
