I've just finished doing taxes for this year and I'm sick to my stomach as usual. But I went in and fiddled a bit to find that if my wife and I filed as single, we would owe $5000 less in taxes! I've heard of the marriage penalty but that's insane. I figure that no matter what congress does to "eliminate" the marriage tax, that will never happen until both incomes are measured on the tax bracket separately. That is, say I earn $128,000 and my wife earns $50,000. If she were single, she would only pay taxes in the range of 10% to 25% but since she is married, her income is lopped on top of mine and therefore it is taxed at 28%. I'm seriously considering a divorce (as in state law) and cohabitating.

I guess my question is what are the "rules" for marriage under God's law (Christian). Would God still consider us married? If not, why?

About marriage: specifically according to christianity, marriage is a spiritual institution. It has nothing to do with lawyers and taxes. If you divorce your wife at an attorney's office, but you still love each other and continue living togather and being a couple, and not having other sexual partners, then you are still married, no matter what the law in Texas says!

About the taxes: by all means, get "divorced" and save those five grand!!!

There are some countries that, in order to receive the privileges of marriage, you must be married at the equivalent of the court house. You may then go through with the religious ceremony. (Some places do it in reverse order.)

In the US, clergy are entitled by the state to marry couples who are legally able to marry. But many also perform marriages for Gay couples. It's a question that is relevant to many parts of society. Remember, though, that once you are divorced, you will also lose your survivor's benefits, many estate benefits, the next-of-kin benefits with hospitals and nursing homes, and myriad other rights that gay couples are clamoring to receive.

Marriage is the union of two those that opt to be jointly...god is senseless in this needless to say for the reason that lots of people who have not got self assurance in a god or gods nevertheless have the flexibility to get married. while you're married below god and not by employing regulation then legally you're no longer married. so some distance as i comprehend there is not any longer a god or gods so your marriage does no longer recommend something yet to you and your mate...i'm no longer asserting it somewhat is a foul situation, whether it nevertheless isn't criminal. in case you opt to declare your love choose for it!

If you are "married" only for the purpose of getting the best tax deal then, obviously, yes, you should get the divorce. Just why are you married?

Marriage under God has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with marriage under state law.
