If they bred only 1 time, the puppies are due 58-63 days after the breeding. Normally the temperature drops prior to whelping the litter. She'll dig, make a nest, you should have a safe quiet area made up for her to whelp the puppies, or else she'll try to get somewhere quiet that she can have them. There is no real way to know exactly when they'll be born until she starts to give you the signs.. You will know approx but you can't say 100% sure when it will be, other than between here and there...

If you had your b**ch mated twice there is no way to determine whether it was the first or second mating which was successful.

It could have been the first, the second, neither or both!

For some strange reason dog breeders advise a second mating 'just in case' the first hasn't taken.

This means that if the first mating was successful and the b**ch is mated again and that mating is successful, she can end up giving birth to a very large litter as she is capable of conceiving on the second mating even though she conceived with the first one.

As you know what dates your b**ch was mated assume she conceived on the first date and work out your 63 day gestation from there. Then work out the second mating gestation period.

If she has not whelped by two days after the second 'expected' date have her checked by your Vet.

Then have her spayed.

Go from the first mating and then give or take a few days. Most dogs gestates for 63 to 69 days.
So If you go by the first mating you can be prepared rather than being caught by surprise unprepared.

dont worry to much take the date from the first time your ***** was mated and then when the ***** starts to scratch and becomes restless she aint going to be long watch her that if she is trying to go out all the time to go to the loo watch that she dont have a pup in the garden i realy wouldnt worry to much as long as you have the date she was mated first time and work out 63 days from that date you wont be far wrong give or take a day either way you will know when she is going to have them she will start acting a bit strange and walking about and panting just keep a close eye on her if she is out in the garden dont let her go out there alone because if she starts pushing when going to the loo she could have first pup in the garden good luck

her temp wont change untill just before she whelps the puppies. you can have her scaned at 4-5wks to determin if she is in fact in pup or not . the only other way to tell is sit and wait. the only problem with that is you will need to suppliment feed and change feed at 6wks and without knowing she could miss out on vital energy from say puppy feed.

the temperature usually will drop to 98 approximatly 24 hours before your dog will whelp though all dogs differ so this is just an indication you shouldnt leave your dog alone when she is near her due dates
