I would like to know if it is possible to go to school in the states and be able to work so I can earn money legally to pay for an aprtment. I am from russia currently in france working as an au pair. Would like to come to the states for school next yr spring

Generally if you get a student visa you can only work on campus and only for a stated amount of time.
Try uscis.gov

You will need student visa/worker visa and work permit to be able to work in US.

You can get a student visa. But if you are here to stay long term you should get your papers to be an American citizen.
