You shouldn't be dieting but if you want to lose a little weight follow this...
Grains
* 9- to 13-year-old girls need 5 ounce equivalents each day.
* 9- to 13-year-old boys need 6 ounce equivalents each day.
And one last thing about grains: Try to eat a lot of whole grains, such as 100% wheat bread, brown rice, and oatmeal.
Vegetables
* 9- to 13-year-old girls need 2 cups of veggies each day.
* 9- to 13-year-old boys need 2 1/2 cups of veggies each day.
Fruits
Sweet, juicy fruit is definitely part of a healthy diet. Here's how much you need:
* 9- to 13-year-old girls need 1 1/2 cups of fruit each day.
* 9- to 13-year-old boys need 1 1/2 cups of fruit each day.
Milk and Other Calcium-Rich Foods
Calcium builds strong bones to last a lifetime, so you need these foods in your diet.
* 9- to 13-year-old girls need 3 cups of milk (or another calcium-rich food) each day.
* 9- to 13-year-old boys need 3 cups of milk (or another calcium-rich food) each day.
If you want something other than milk, you can substitute yogurt, cheese, or calcium-fortified orange juice - just to name a few.
Meats, Beans, Fish, and Nuts
These foods contain iron and lots of other important nutrients. Like grains, these foods are measured in ounce equivalents.
An ounce equivalent of this group would be:
* 9- to 13-year-old girls need 5 ounce equivalents each day.
* 9- to 13-year-old boys need 5 ounce equivalents each day.
Hoped that helped

At 13 years old, you do not really need to do much more than be active. Only eat til the hunger pains go away, and eat slow. Not fast. This will help to not over-eat. I myself and over-weight. I found myself spending so much money on "miracle pills" that just didn't work. So, I just started walking instead of driving ( 3 times a week ), only ate til I was comfortable not full, and stopped drinking soda, only water and ice tea with equal. Believe it or not, I went from a size 24 to a 16 in 8 months. Just think of all the money I could've saved. But it does work. Don't diet, diets never work. Just try to control more of how much you eat rather than what you eat.

The best diet is learn to enjoy and eat healthy foods and your body will let you know what it needs. Have a little of other foods you love that aren't as healthy to keep you from feeling you are missing out on them if you do, but eat very little, slowly and enjoy them when you eat them. Most of all you will be able to really enjoy the tastes, smells and looks of food that is healthy and you will feel great mentally and physically. Eat small meals and snacks that are healthy and don't eat too much at a time and you will learn to stop eating when your body feels like it is getting full. Try a wide variety of foods and this makes it fun to enjoy the creativity you and others can have with food. Make it a lifelong goal and have fun with it. Good luck! I love to see young people learn the right ways to eat and stay slim. Here is a good website. Belief net with Dr. Norris find through yahoo search. He gives lots a great tips on diet and changing your way of thinking about foods and dieting and you can also talk with others with similar problems if needed.

Stop eating sugar and processed flour, for starters- or eat them only on rare occassions.
Stop eating fried foods like french fries, chicken strips, etc.
If you're not already very active, add some exercise to your day- take a long walk, ride your bike, walk your dog, do cartwheels, skate or skateboard. Do something you enjoy doing. Make sure you pick things you can do that can be done alone as well as things you can do with friends. You want to be sure to exercise even if your friends can't go with you.
Eat a lot of NON-starchy veggies. (Starchy veggies are carrots, corn, sweet peas, potatoes. Non-starchy are broccoli, asparagus, etc.
Eat one or two pieces of fruit every day.
Eat only a little bit of whole grains each day- brown rice, whole grain bread (not just brown bread- be sure it's whole grain).
Eat lean meat, chicken and fish- 8 ounces or less a day for a kid your age is plenty.
Cook using olive oil rather than butter or other kinds of cooking oils whenever possible.
Don't eat margarine- eat butter only on rare occassions.
You can eat a handful of nuts each day if you like them and are not allergic.
Also, you need calcium, so eat a square of cheddar cheese, or a slice of cheese on a sandwich every couple of days.
You can eat an egg or two for breakfast every day.
Hope some ideas are here! The idea is not to starve yourself, but to improve the quality of the food you eat and to increase exercise.
Good luck to you!

My sister became a vegitarian like last month, and she already lost a lot weight. so just become a vegitarain for a couple months and you will lose alot of weight. youy can still eat meet they make vegitarian meet so just go to stores and ask for vegitarain meet. they will give it to you. and you are never to young or old to start dieting. when i was 7 me and my mom started dieting together. it was really fun but i am skinny enough so i stopped. so just do what i told you and you don't even have to become a vegitarian forever just a couple of months.

Being 13 is really young and you shouldn't have to worry about your weight. If you want to reamin healthy, you should stay away from fast food places or greasy food. You should start eating salads, vegetables, fruits or grains. For example, for breakfast, have a muffin, then at lunch, half of a sandwich and then for dinner, pasta (one cup is limit)

best answer and most real answer that i can suggest is the traditional counting calories and get some exercise. OR just watch portions... you can google appropriate portions... veggies/whole grains/fruit/protein sources-and you can eat what is considered "junk" but only in moderation.(same with fast food-maybe 1x a month).. it is hard to do, but this will be beneficial if you work at it, and within time you won't even think twice-you'll do it automatically...
