I was just curious what takes so long to get your dog back from the groomer. I take my dog in at 8:30 and they usually call around 2-3 to say come pick her up. I was just wondering from any dog groomers out there what goes on while she is there. I dont want to be rude and ask so I have just never questioned it. Also, do they take the dogs out to go potty?
Thanks!

It depends on several different things.
All places can be different.
Some plces have bathers, and front desk receptionists
with more than one groomer.

I can tell you how I do things...
I have my shop here at my home and I work alone.
I do the bath and drying which can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour (depending on wether I hand dry or cage dry the dog) some dogs HATE to be hand dryed so I cage dry those instead.
Then the haircut of course....the length of time varies on all sort of things. Type of haircut, condition of coat...ect..

I usually talk to the owner and find out their scedule, do they want to pick up right away? Then I do their dog first.
I only work by appointments which allows me to scedule dogs who stay with me all day while owners are at work and are not in a hurry (i can do those dogs last)

I only do 4-5 dogs a day. Sometimes less.
I 'wouldnt' do more than that.
YES they go out for potty breaks,at my shop.

TALK TO YOUR GROOMER. Ask how soon you can pick her back up. It may not be necessary for her to stay that long.
Thats why I suggest keeping standing appointments to my clients, so I can scedule accordingly.
Ask her if you pre book the appointments if she could work it where it would be convenient for both of you to have your dog in and out sooner.

No they don't go out to go potty cuz they r usually put in a crate for there size n they go in there.Everyday a groomer will have many dogs and has to do them all. They do the dogs in the order they come in n there is a lot to do when it comes to grooming.First they wash then they blow dry then they clip n style.Usually the owner (groomer) does the clipping n the other workers do the wash n blow dry.Once they r washed they r immediately blow dryed n put in the crate to wait there turn to clip.We send ours 1 time a month n it's the same 8:30 morn n pick up around 3.It depends on how busy they r.When I worked with them as a volunteer that is how everything went in order.

At the place I work we do it differently, we have them on a schedule and we take them out and everything....

but some other places will take all the dogs in in the morning and keep them in a kennel until they are ready to groom that particular dog. When that dog is done, then they will call you. So most likely your dog is sitting in a kennel waiting most of the time. And it all depends on the place if they choose to take them out to go potty or not... some do, some dont.

Yes they take the dogs out to go potty. Alot of groomers will have a set time to bring in all dogs to be groomed that day. Then they take them one by one and groom them. It just so happens that yours may be one of the last ones done. They do shampoo them and comb them.

There is probably a wait, since other people have appointments too.

I imagine they would have to take the dogs out for a walk if they had been in their kennel for a while. Plus bathing and or clipping a dog can take a long time depending on how much fur and dirt there is, and some dogs may fight and resist.

Yes, the dogs are either allowed into a fenced yard, or walked while they are there.

It takes a while because they have to have an open tub for bathing, and the drying takes some time. Then there is the brush comb and clip...

The dryers take forever. I used to work in a kennel with grooming shop attached. I would never bring my dog to a groomers simply because of the stress of being in a kennel with a dryer aimed at them for hours. I use the flat end of a shedding blade to dry my dog off and she's dry completely in a half hour.

it takes about 3-4 hours for a good groomer to finish grooming your dog. they do not take the dog outside for potty.
