a hot bath with relaxing music will help just before bed.also some lavender scented lotion will help you feel relaxed. some people say that exercise before bed will wear you out and help you sleep, but i like my way. also drink some hot decaffeinated tea or coffee. and make sure you have a comfy bed and pillows.

Have you spoken with a doctor yet? Heart palpitations are something you should discuss with one. However, here are some tips to getting to sleep: establish a routine at night. Do not watch TV right before going to bed. Instead, try listening to soothing music or reading a book. Try taking a warm bath and relax and try going to bed at the same time every night. Take deep breaths and think to yourself about something pleasant that you'd want to dream about while you're sleeping. Just kinda daydream until you're really dreaming. During the day, avoid caffeine and get plenty of exercise. Good luck!

i used to have a similar experience falling to sleep but now i have a "ritual" that i am happy to share with you.......at 9pm....or at least one hour before bed i run a bath with epsom salts in it, oil, and bubble bath that has a very relaxing scent, i grab a book or magazine and i get into the tub wiht low lighting and a few candles going and i soak and read for about 20min to a half hour, i get out of the bath and moisturize my skin with a nice lotion put on p.j's and then go to the kitchen and make a nice warm mug of ovaltine i take it with me into the bedroom where i read a little more while sipping my ovaltine, once done the ovaltine i put on quiet relaxing music, i get all cozy in my bed and as i listen to the music with all the lights off i say a prayer ( i am not a religous person, but the prayer is very relaxing) and before i finish the prayer i ususally fall off to sleep.....all in all this takes about an hour, but it has been working well for me for a few years now....perhaps you can try the same or modify to include what you find to be relaxing events to use.......i truely hope thatthis will be of some help and jhope that you find yorself drifting off to sleep much more peacefully and relaxed.....all the very best to you.

Do you consume a lot of caffeinated products, like coffee, tea or sodas with caffeine (check the ingredients label) during the day? This can cause sleeplessness at night.
The heart palpitations thing sounds kind of scary. Have you seen a doctor about this? It would be a good idea to make an appt. with your doctor, just to be safe, and have that checked out. Good luck to you! :)

You could go to a health food store and buy some melatonin. It's not a sleeping pill, but it's in pill form. It's something your body produces naturally, and it's not harmful or anything at all. You just take it and in about 15 minutes you fall asleep.

I listen to some classical music first. Then I read a little, and until I feel tired, I go to sleep.
