Dvds often have certain regions set to them so they will only work on dvd players that support that region eg britain is region 2.. A multi region dvd should work on any dvd player anywhere in the world...

Region 1 - Mostly the America's
Region 2 - Africa and most of Europe
Region 3 - Most of Asia and Australia
