My dog has been throwing up once a week for the past month now. I went to the vet and it seems like the blood work was normal with no liver or kidney problems. This is a lot of stuff that comes out and it's usually the previous night's food....which is his regular canned food he's been having for the past 10 years. Are there any other reason that might be causing it especially when it only happens ever so often?

My dog went through a similar phase of diarrea every night, several times a night, for over a month. The blood work and stool labs were normal, her activity level was otherwise normal (she was a hyper puppy), and the vets couldn't find anything wrong with her.

She eventually outgrew it, but it's still a mystery.

My only recommendation is that after a vomiting episode, feed him steamed white rice mixed with cottage cheese or broiled boneless, skinless chicken breast (chopped finely) for the next couple of meals, just because it's bland and easy to digest. And make sure there is plenty of clean, fresh drinking water for him so he doesn't get dehydrated.

Maybe also cut back on the canned food (it could be too rich for an older dog) and feed more dry kibble, or gradually switch to a senior formula (if your dog is over 10 years old, maybe it's just time to give him the special food).

Good luck!

well that actually can reflect right on what the dog is eating. some comanies use by products and fillers in their product that are not regulated one bit! one week they can use rats and the next they will use horses. both are incredibly hard to digest by dogs. i would recomend switching to a holistic food that contains no by-products or fillers. i would suggest eagle pack, innova, evo, or even wellness. companies such as iams, purina, ( pretty much anyting they sell at walmart or grocery stores) change their formulas, and the dog never gets full benefits from it. and also, look to see the recomended feeding size, the more it is, the less nutritional each nugget is. well if you have an more questions please email me. oh and also, you should really mix dry and wet food, not one or the other, it messes up urine pH and can cause intestinal problems

your dog is probably disturbed with something and has something called "colitis".
research it and you will know what to do.
