If you have your green card then it will be fine. As others are saying next yr you will need to have a passport if you are a citizen by then, citizens will be required to carry a passport where ever they go out of the state they are living in. You as an alien make sure you have you Id card and or your green card and you will be fine.

Your citizenship, not your residency, is the issue.

US citizens need to have a passport if going by air or sea. Next year they will need a passport by land.
