I'm in a marriage of 25 years now- and my husband and I started just like that- BEST FRIENDS- THE BEST OF FRIENDS!!!! and we still are- our relationship is very special and the bond is very strong- so go ahead and propose.
If she hesitates- ask her what will she feel if one day she sees you with another lady? The answer will let her and yourself know what to do next.
GOOD LUCK !!

I talked about this with another person in here. This is what I think about finding your partner in life.
It was originally believed that soulmates are created when the creator takes a soul and splits it into two as it is caste into human form. Each half is supposed to learn the life lessons at their own pace. When the two halves sometimes cross paths during various lifetimes, they have a cosmic powerful bond because they really are of the same soul. They complete each other.
Some say that there are different types of soulmates. There is the soulmate as an one's other half, the companion or lover who helps one achieve a goal, and the karmic teacher who comes into your life to teach you an important lesson.
What counts is what you believe and what you want in life. Don't worry about how others define it. I think you know it when you are ready.

Whoa, slow down and take a breath! You need to sit her down and tell her how serious your feelings for her are, then wait for her response. It sounds like you both have a lot in common and a relationship would certainly last the distance, if she felt the same. Don't put to much pressure on her or you could lose her, good luck my friend, and an invite to the wedding would be nice.
