We have a very nice female australian shepard. We would love to breed her, but would not be ready to for another few years. She is now just about 2 years old. When would be too old to start breeding her?

One of the reasons we will be waiting a few years, is to gain more knowledge about breeding before we jump into it. We also live in an apartment which would not be practical for having puppies. We want to be educated and responsible about breeding and will not breed the dog if we are not fully ready for it.

It is ok to breed her at 2, I stop breeding mine when they turn 8 years old. So at age 7 would be their last litter. I am sure you are going to get a lot of ideas..You are on the right track, so I really think you will be ok.

Well you sound like a very responsible person. I think it is safe to breed her now, but does she have a pedigree/papers? If she does that can make the pupies worth more money if bred to a pedigreed male dog. The best times to breed yur dog would be from about from her 3rd heat (cycle when a ***** is ready to mate and on the lookout for a male) to her best and healthiest times (so for example if she starts getting health problems around age 7 don't breed her). Also you should get a good dog to breed her with, preferably with some good show history and of course a pedigree.

I wouldn't breed her after 6 years old. Now would be a great time to breed her. I am a vet tech and we recommend breeding anytime after the first heat cycle. Good Luck!!

Well 2 is a good age. She should stop breeding though after 4 years. The apartment isnt such a good place for breeding. I think you could manage. The mom will need some room. well i hope I answered your question.

wow you are going to get educated on breeding first. that is a very good thing most of these jack @$$ people just think you get two dogs and let them go at it. i am glad you are researching first.

Reputable breeds breed between 2 and 6 years of age. You will not make money, it will put you thousands of dollars behind to properly breed your dog. You might even lose your beloved pet to complications. Please consider the risks and benefits very carefully before breeding.

You are very smart to wait. She can safely be bred now if thats what you want to do. Please look for a male that is worthy and sound.

Good luck!.
