I just acquired a parakeet, and need some information about how to transition her to a new cage. In reading some information about care on the internet, I found that she has the wrong cage (tall and thin) and only one perch. I read that she should have multiple perches, a swing, bath, etc. Will it stress her to be moved to a new cage? Any tips appreciated

Set both cages up next to each other with food, toys, and water in both. Put a millet spray in the new cage to entice her to explore the new one. In no time she will realise that then new one is much better and more fun to be in.

It might stress her out a little but it's for the better if she's getting a bigger, better cage! Congrats to you for realizing she needs more room! I see too many birds kept in too small cages... Is she hand-tamed? If so try having both cages in the room and let her explore the new cage on her own for a few days. Hey--she may even show you that she approves of it and not want to come out! ;-) Parakeets are very social, you may want to consider 2 so they can keep each other company, and in that case a bigger cage is in order anyways! Good Luck!

Oh, it may stress her a bit, but if it is better for her then of course it's the thing to do. When you get the new cage, have it beside the one she is currently in, so she gets acclimated to it a bit. Nice to see someone else caring for our beautiful creatures in this world!
