You could go to a family member's home and have a small cake and punch or champagne reception. Another alternative is, again at someones house, have platters of cold cuts, bread, salads, and your wedding cake for your reception. Just invite the number of people you can afford, it doesn't have to be a big party to have fun and celebrate. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials.

I'd pick the bride wildflowers if necessary, but I'd be sure she had a bouquet. I'd also dress nicely. Clean the car and decorate it with inexpensive crepe paper and cheesy paper wedding bells. Bring along some confetti or bird seed and MAKE it a celebration. Plan a simple meal somewhere or get a group of friends to each bring a dish and have a nice supper in your home. Order an inexpensive cake from a local bakery or cute cupcakes with balloons. Cover the table in white paper, light a few candles, and sprinkle rose petals. A friendly florist would happily give you petals. Make a sign with glitter and construction paper announcing the happy couple. Put on some nice music. Drink sparkling cider instead of expensive champagne. It's bubbly and festive. So is fresh lemonade. A plate of pretty cookies, some nuts and mints...a few streamers....It doesn't take much to make a party, just a few happy people. Get several inexpensive cameras and one nice album. Let everyone snap away and smile.....there's every reason to celebrate!

Congratulations! You want a celebration on a tight budget, well how about a family style get together. Your friends and families could forgo presents and bring a dish. Have a pot luck reception at someone's home.
Don't feel bad or that you are missing something, because a lot of people are doing this. It's a relaxing and less stressful way for the bride and groom to spend their wedding day!
I did a friend's wedding for less than $400, that's the preacher, dress, his new shirt and tie, flowers, and everything we could borrow or someone didn't bring. I gave the bride the printed napkins and glasses for their present. Another friend made the wedding cake, another gave them wine to make a toast. It was one of the nicest weddings that I have ever done, and I promise you it was the happiest relaxed couple I had ever seen!
Wish I lived close to you, I make some awesome potato salad and baked beans! Best wishes and happy years to you. Hope this helped a little, and remember you can always have another celebration on an anniversary!
God bless us all...........

I agree with the BBQ. My fiancee and I are going to city hall in May and having a BBQ when the weather is nicer in August. I still haven't decided yet whether it will be pot-luck or not. I'm thinking that we'll invite 60 people or so and provide all of the food. We're going to rent a pavilion at the park so that there is something for the kids to do and so that the atmosphere is laid back.
And don't let Belverana scare you off. You don't need money to get married. If everyone waited until they could afford a $20,000+ ceremony, there would be a lot less married couples out there! Marriage isn't about money. It's about love. I feel sorry for Belverana for not realizing that.

Ask close family members to cook something and have a pot luck. Have certain people bring a dish. Or go out to dinner afterwards. It doesn't have to be anything expensive. Have a light lunch. Make mini sandwiches and cheese platter and a fruit platter. COngrats!

Just go back to your home or a family members home and have a cook out. You can get a large box of burgers at some place like Sam's for not that expensive, or go to a place like Aldi or Save A Lot and get food. It does not need to be extravagant to be fun.
