Its true that most Protestants consider only themselves as Christians, Catholics are Christians too, Protestant is just one of the three groups of Christianity. When did protestantism started? does it mean that there were no true Christians before 16th century and therefore no salvation for the followers of Christ before that? The whole teaching of Protestants is also from the Bible, where the contents had been selected and compiled by the Roman Catholic Church and is based on its belief, therefore a Protestant's belief system is based on the belief system of the Catholic Church, they did some modification and reinterpretation then claim that they are the only Christians, they should have studied their roots.

Most non-Catholic Christian denominations accept Catholics as Christians. A very few do not.

A dictionary would say that a Christian is someone professing belief in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.

Catholics would fit this definition.

In the Nicene creed, from 325 A.D., Catholics profess:

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father.

Through Him all things were made.

For us and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried.

On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We are baptized as Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:19, "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

We truly are spiritually "born again," we just don't usually use those words.

With love in Christ.

Actually the first Christians were converted Jews(at Pentecost,50 days after Christs Resurrection). Catholicism did not come into existence until 300 ad. As for Peter,he is not the foundation of CHRISTS church,Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of it. Peter, the other apostles, and all true believers since then are the building blocks of Jesus church.

Hold it and time out here! First of all, The catholic church that rose up AFTER the Crucifixion of The Messiah was basing themselves off of (and they followed it for a few hundred years there after too) the old Roman and Greek theology. They (catholic church) used and changed certain Roman and Greek gods/goddesses over to saints and what not to help convert people over to Christianity. Where do you think we got the winter-time Christmas celebration from? The Buddhists? No, actually, we got that from the Norsemen. Christ was born in the summer, not the winter. The Messiah actually called Peter to TEACH the New Testament. Christ didn't make him anything else save a teacher and a disciple. The ONLY people we are to submit our selves to is G-D, through the Son, The Messiah! Not someone a mere mortal has falsely proclaimed to be "holy". So then, why are the catholics worshiping a statue of someone who G-D used to help other people after His Son died and rose again?

I guess you have to start with the definition of a Christian. I think it is a person who believes that Jesus died on the cross (and was resurrected) to atone for the sins of the world. They choose to put their trust in Jesus and follow him. To the best of my knowledge Catholics would fall into the category of Christian. Most of the rest of the discussion is really about differences in denominations (which I happen to think is not very important).

I don't like to argue with catholics because I know that there are good christians in their church, just like there are good christians in protestants churches.

The correct interpretation of Mat 16
Jesus speaking:
15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

That is the true faith of those who make up the christian church will bear witness to JESUS, the son of the living God. This is the rock the church is founded on.

1st Cor 10v4And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Not all protestants do claim that. There are Catholic doctrines-- for example, Mary as co-redeemer, Papal inerrence, the existence of Purgatory-- that I, as a Lutheran, believe are mistaken, however, we are not saved by doctrine, but by the grace of God. So long as Catholics affirm that Christ was and is God incarnate, they are Christian.

Catholics go through a man (the priest) to as an interceder to God. They confess there sins to the priest.

Christians (Prostenants) beleive that you go to the Father only through Jesus and no one else... thats why we pray and end the prayer in Jesus' name.

Catholics hail Mary... as almost an of equal value to Jesus Christ.

Christians (Protestants) respect Mary, because she is Jesus' mother... but do not hail her or worship or her in any way.

Because they follow a human being not the Bible. The Catholics have mis-interpreted the Bible making Peter the rock. But if you read the Bible it continually says the Jesus is the rock. And Catholics believe that they get to heaven by being good and not sinning, by going to church, confession and communion when the Bible says that salvation is by believing in Jesus Christ and not by works. We we can work our way into heaven then what did Jesus die for? (Read the book of Romans)

I am a protestant and I believe that Catholics are Christians. I have read books and attended mass and asked numerous people to find the answer to that question, other Protestants who claim differently haven't taken time to learn it and just repeat what they hear.
