OK, so a while ago I had to go to the dentist with a terrible toothache and ended up having to get the tooth extracted because it was badly decayed. When I was there, he said I needed a fair bit of work done on my other teeth as well, fillings and stuff, but I never went back to get them done.

Anyway, it's now like a year later and my teeth are starting to hurt, sometimes pretty bad, so I'm going to go back to the dentist, but I just wanted to know - now that I'm getting toothaches, will I still just need to get fillings, or will I need to get root canals or more extractions?

Oh honey I hope that you need just fillings, but I dont think you would need any extractions, Root canals at the maximum but no extractions, Best of Luck and please dont delay any further

Hey, well first of all, if you had a tooth so badly decayed it needed to be extracted, then chances are the cavities in your other teeth were probably relatively bad as well - it's unusal to have one really badly decayed tooth and for all your other teeth to be perfect. So leaving it a year before getting your other teeth fixed probably wasn't the best idea in the world.......cavities never get better, but they almost always get worse with time. It depends on the type of pain you're having now, if it's just say a sharp pain when you eat something sweet, then you can probably still get away with fillings. If you have lingering pain, which by the sound of it you have, then you'll probably be looking at needing root canals. Dentists generally try not to extract teeth now unless they absolutely have to, so chances are they'll do everything possible to save your teeth. But you really need to go as soon as you can before anything gets any worse. And it sounds like you really need to take better care of your teeth, maybe takea look at how much sugar you're eating, or how much fizzy juice you're drinking. And make sure you brush twice a day!!! Good luck, sounds like you're in for a rough time at the dentist!

Only your Dentist can tell you what kind of decay has happened since your last appointment. It is best when you have a toothache to take care of all your tooth problems then. problems with teeth just don't go away, they get worse then they fall out!

It depends on what your dentist says. They might be too far decayed to fill so have to be extracted. Leaving it a year wouldnt have helped the situation, what could have been minor fillings might now be extractions. Hope you get sorted out soon.

Well you may have another infection in your teeth and since you didnt go and get your fillings and other stuff he/she wanted done you probably will have to get a couple root canals or even worse extractions and once there gone you get dentures so its not that bad i guess

Hang on while I get my crystal ball.
The only person who will know what work you will need is the dentist. What I will say is all the work you needed before will not have gone away, only got worse.

Well your mouth is just one of those places in our body that does not get better on its own. The sooner you go the less damage will happen.
