I actually love both. They are both good comfort foods. Unfortunately, I like white rice with lots of butter on it which is not very healthy. Couscous is healthier, but I always get the flavored varieties.

Rice is good most of the time. It's nice to order couscous in a restaurant or surprise yourself with it once in a while at home.
I say this because I cook and eat on a budget and couscous is a lot more expensive than rice.
Couscous is a really good way to get your pasta in when you are in a hurry though, it is such a small piece of pasta that it cooks just by adding hot water. It's like using Minute Rice only it isn't fake or instant formula food.
Excellent for extended backpacking menus for the same reason. Then you don't waste camping fuel trying to cook the food, and you don't burn the food on a fire. Plus it packs nice and is a classy little treat when you are out there.
For those who asked...couscous is tiny pasta, the granules are almost as small as sand or Cream of Wheat and hydrated it is still very tiny. It is African but pretty much made of the same thing as other pasta. Being so small it absorbs a lot of flavor from spices and such. It is served a lot like rice in recipes.

Rice being staple food in South India, we eat more rice than any other serial's. To compensate we have it with lot of vegetable's, and wheat in form of "Indian bread" called CHAPATI or ROTI , as rice contains only starch and carbohydrate.
