OK, I've downloaded Audacity. What is the next step?

You mean separate the vocals from the music? Depends.

You need an audio editor like Adobe Audition (nice but expensive) or Audacity (nice and free).

You can only do this if the vocal track is cantral (mono) and the music is stereo. If you invert one channel and mix to mono on playback, the result will contain only the stereo difference signal; ie, the vocals will dissapear. Subtract that from the original and you will end up with the mono vocal channel and no stereo music.

How well this works depends on the sound balance of the original. Spend some time experimenting.

Try a program called Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows
You can play around with the equalizer and get close to seperating voice and music. Its free!

No, its impossible because the technology today cannot distinguish music and voice all it registers are frequencies and wavelengths.
