I thought that last night whilst watching ant & dec in africa, they were saying about the toilet system in this village & how £90 ould pay for a block of cubicals and i couldn't help thinking that when we raised £40 odd million last year could the whole village not of been supplied, why had we only bought them 5 toilets? If we raised so much why wouldn't you say "right, this year we are going to spend 2million tarting up your village, giving you more room & schools and beds for the orphans to sleep on etc" and then move onto the next cause waiting for help ?

agree with you and, sadly, I get annoyed when I see that most of it goes for overseas aid. The first few Comic Reliefs were for Africa only - I'm sure they're a deserving cause but I'm at a loss to see why we send money abroad when we have plenty of deserving causes, elderly people freezing to death, abused children, etc., over here. After we put our own house in order we should then have plenty spare for others.
I know this isn't a popular view, but I think it's indecent to send all this money abroad while we still have poverty in this country. And I'm not even sure that the Africans actually get it - their tin-pot dictators seem to live very well so I suspsect that some of our aid gets skimmed off by the politicians first!

Yes I agree. It is very sad to see people in Africa living in those terrible conditions. I have to say what really made me angry last night was seeing that funding for women who are victims of violence and given those mobile phones are being paid for by Comic Relief - is this not something the government should be funding for gods sake? And to think that in this country (UK) our government sits back and lets young children care for their parents is shameful - the only way these young carers get a break is through Comic Relief - terrible.

My question too, I have lived all over africa (23 years) and have never seen one comic relief job in any of the courites mentioned. But if my sources are right they all( the guests) get paid a fee for entertaining us for 7 hours, so may be alot of the money goes to them. I do gree with the point of the poor children who have to care for their parents in this country, I really felt sorry for that little girl of 11 it brought a tear to my eye.

Well you have to pay for all the administration and publicity first and all that promotional stuff, plus I expect the cost of having bbc1 for seven hours would be pretty high! Also I'd expect the money would have to go through the government in whatever country it goes to.
I don't give to huge charities like that, I'd imagine every ten pounds I give only one pound of it will be used for the right reasons.

the warlords in the country apparently take most of the money, unless i see a detailed record of where every penny is spent we shouldn't fund war, i want to help but not if the money is not going to the right place you may as well raise it yourself go on holiday there and give it yourself may make a bigger impact i saw all those children in need no happiness from last year, what was the money spent on i haven't a clue, have you?

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day; teach him to fish and he'll eat for life.
The problem is the money is going towards alleviating the symptoms, not curing the cause of poverty and deprivation.
If they want to see progress, then they need to tackle government corruption, and sort out some viable and sustainable means for these people to fend for themselves.
