God gave us choices. God did not want robots. He wanted us to choose HIM. The wrong choices will ALWAYS be available to us because if we couldn't choose wrong then we couldn't choose right either..

According to the Bible, God created all, and He saw it was good. If He made the serpent (aka Satan) its because He had a plan for it. That plan is the temperance of the souls.

When God made the angels, He made them perfect, but they did not have free will. All angels had to obey, and obey they did, always. Among Gods creatures, only Man has free will.

So --you might ask yourself-- why then did Lucifer rebel if he had no free will at all? Lucifer means "the bringer of light", and he was described as the greatest, wisest and most radiant of all angels. According to legend he rebeled and took with him a great deal of angels, all of whom fell and became demons.

These demons tempt Man into commiting sin, but Man can CHOOSE either sin or piety. Without sin, there can be no piety, and God only allows Man in heaven if he is pious. So, in order to be able to choose, you must have options to choose from. In the begining Man lived in Eden, and he was little more than an animal there, being happy and ignorant. So God told Lucifer to help man achieve light (realization) and Lucifer went and convinced Eve to take the apple of the tree of wisdom.

Adam and Eve knew it was forbidden, but they did not really know what forbiddance is, right? Because they did not have knowledge of good and evil! So they needed the knowledge, and by doing so they lost innocence. Now, with free will, every man and woman must choose, for we all can decide for ourselves between good and evil.

Therefore, for me, God created Lucifer (aka The Serpent, aka Satan) to help Man grow spiritually through temptation, so that he could make the right choice.

The strangest thing is that he cursed the serpent to "go flat on the floor". The serpent could walk before?!

Gen 3:14 And the Lord God said to the snake, Because you have done this you are cursed more than all cattle and every beast of the field; you will go flat on the earth, and dust will be your food all the days of your life

God made Satan to show man that he has a choice - to either live the way that God had intended for us to live with each other or the other way; which is in willfull, rebellious, sinful behavior towards the God that loves us - and that feeling of conscience that is in each of us would hopefully reveal to man that he is in need of redemption, that he is a sinner and needs a way to make things right with his Creator; that God is a holy God that cannot tolerate sin and the only way of redemption is through acceptance of the work that His son Jesus Christ did on the cross in bearing our sins to make us clean again so we become righteous again in God's sight

Serpent is just another name/role of Satan himself. Satan was created a beautiful, very wise Angel who guarded the throne that was reserved for Christ. Thats why satan was created. And no, God did not know that satan would start a war, wanting to sit in the position of Christ.

Why shouldn't he have made serpents? What's wrong with snakes? They get a bad rap just because of that whole Garden of Eden deal. I like them and they make great shoes.

In order for you to know good you had to know evil. The Ten Commandments were written to tell us what not to do. If there was no wrong then how would you know to do good? How could you differentiate between good and evil if you never had a concept of evil? Therefore to know good, to know God; you must know evil, know Satan.

Because He wanted us to love Him because we choose to, not because we are puppets on a string. No 'other side' = no choice and the really obvious answer to this would have to be because He made everything =)
