it depends on what you are looking for. most gyms will let you do a trial for a day so I would do that until you find one you like. pay attention to things like, how clean and updated the equipment is, if they have classes you are interested in, and things that are specific to you, do you need daycare? do you want a personal trainer? also if you do a trial talk to other members and get their feedback.

Check out your local YMCA. They are usually the cheapest. There are plenty of educated staff there and they can guide you in the right direction for your proper work out. Most of the time meeting with an instructor is free at a Y and at a private gym they charge 25-40 an hour for these meetings.

That's something you need to find out on your own. Go to all the gyms in your area and get their prices and what they offer. Then go home and sit down with all of your notes (which gym offers what for how much) and figure out which one would meet your needs for the least amount of money.

Look for a gym that best suits you Cardinal fitness in my area has deals of 19.95 a month. Make sure they have various amounts of leg machines and squat racks.

This varies depending on where you live. Even the chains will differ because of staffing. You might ask your doctor, pharmacist, or even sports coaches at local high schools. They'd be likely to be familiar with the facilities in your area.
