People often call dachshunds as a "doxie". Is this just a short term, or, is there a true difference between a dachshund and a doxie? ty!

okay so I went to wikipedia.org and found Dachshunds, but I didn't find anything on American dachshunds... so I don't think that there is a difference maybe just that they were breed in the US of A.

I think "doxie" is just a shortened word for dachshund. Doxy is defined as a doctrine, it has nothing to do with dogs.

There is no such creature as a Doxie....it's not in my dog book. A dachshund is generally named Fritz.

I've never heard this term but doing a google search on it find it is indeed another term for a dachshund. Another common term for this breed of dog is sausage dog.

i do believe that americans call their dachshunds 'doxies' or 'weiner dogs' we in the UK however call them 'daxies' or 'sausage dogs' dachshunds come in three coat types-wire, long and smooth-two sizes-standard and miniature (except in europe where they have a third size a 'kaninchen' or 'rabbit dachshund' which is smaller than the miniature dachs) also the colours range from solid colour-black/tan, choc/tan, red, brindle, cream etc to dapple colour-silver dapple, chocolate dapple, red dapple.

Doxie is just the shortened and easier to spell name for a
daschund or how ever it is spelled.

well, a daschund, just a daschund, is like normal colors. i.e-brown black, tan. a doxie is: its like one color all over the body, then like one color of thin lines running through out the whole body and like speckles. sometimes the eyes are two different colors. like i have a 4 year old dapple doxie named,"Juicy Fruit." hes dark brown, all over, then has gray lines running through his whole body and his eyes, one blue, one black. hes handsome sexy sexy man!!
