The promised land was the land of Canaan which was promised to the Israelites when they were living in slavery in Egypt. Symbolically the promised land to the Christian is a state of spiritual maturity where a Christian comes to the point where they learn to rest in God. When a Christian learns to rest in God it is then that they are useful to God in the war against spiritual evil. Until that time a Christian is mostly concerned with dealing was sin in their own lives. You can't be a warrior for God if you have not yet conquered the deficiencies in your own life. Today this doctrine is a virtually lost in Christianity. The doctrine is mostly outlined in the book of Hebrews in the Bible. Heaven is never portrayed as the promised land in the Bible, since the promised land (Canaan)was a place of warfare not a place of an rest.

It is the land promised by God tp the 12 tribes of Israel.
The land is portioned out in the old testament to the twelve tribes.
Palestine is part of that land.
That is why there is a hullabaloo over there now.
When the Jews were dispersed the Arabs moved in and have been there for a very long time.
Now the Jews are back and they say it is our land.

In the book of Genesis, in the Old Testament, God told Abram that He would make of him, a great nation. While on a mountain top in the Sinai God told Abram to look to the North, the East, the South and the West. That all the land which he could see from this mountain top,(Canaan) he would give to him and his descendants forever!
This was part of the Covenant that God made with His servant Abram, whose name was changed to Abraham, on the day that God made the agreement with him. A land so large that it was bordered on the North by the Mediterranean Sea, on the East by the Euphrates River, on the South by the Gulf of Oman, on the West by the Nile River!!! All this land God graciously gave to His humble servant Abraham for his faith full service to God!!!

I agree that the Bible is very symbolic. That's why if you take it literally you will find many contradictions.

For me, the "promised land" represents salvation, and it is not a place but a state of the spirit, much like "nirvana" for the budhists. If you follow God's lead and allow him into your heart, you will soon find yourself living in the promised land, but still in your own country, your own neighborhood, with your same friends.

That is why the meek shall inherit the earth: for if you have peace in your heart, all around you will also become peacefull.

The Bible is very symbolic.
God lead Israel through the wilderness to the promised land in the Old Testament which was the land of Canaan.

The nation of Israel is a symbolic reference to all those who have been saved by God's grace. The body of Christ.

Now God lead's his people through the wilderness of this earthly life that we may inherit the true promised land which is heaven itself.

Genesis 13:12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. 13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly. 14 And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: 15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. 16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. 17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee. 18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.

Genesis 17:8 - And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

depends, I mean it was Israel and Judah, but really
really it was talking about the people of the holy city of Jerusalem. Judah is actually the modern day Gaza strip of Palestine and was conquered, I belive it was the Assyrians.
Also if one actually reads the Toraha, you can see that the Jews are actually banned from there promise land.
